Many factors contribute to depression. Our medical system is generally focused on the physical aspects of a health issue. If you visit a physician with complaints of depression, youā€™ll probably leave his office with a prescription for medication. This doesnā€™t address the emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of the condition. These tips can help.
- The foundation of health is composed of diet, sleep, exercise and stress management.
- Examine your thoughts, emotions and how you react in the world.
- Consider the quality of air, food and water you consume. Toxins may be affecting your health, setting off genetic conditions.
- You have neuroplasticity and can change your thoughts.
- Spirituality embraces love and compassion for yourself. How do you feel about you?
Listen as Dr. Christina Bjorndal, ND joins Dr. Holly Lucille to share how other factors can contribute to depression.

A podcast with Molly Carrol, MA, LPC Lighting the Way to Better Mental Health with Dr. Christina Bjorndal, ND
In recent years, our society has grown more accustomed to discussing this very important subject. We have normalized checking in with ourselves and each other, increased our compassion for those who are struggling, and have more resources than ever available to us to educate and guide us toward improving our mental health.
Dr. Chris,ND is not only someone who has studied and researched mental illness for many years, but she also has deep personal experience with her own mental health challenges. She openly and courageously shares with us about her own struggles with bipolar disorder, depression, and multiple suicide attempts, and how she now lives a life free from suicidal ideation, using the tools from her own medical practice to successfully manage her depression and bipolar disorder with loads of compassion and love.
This episode is thoroughly relatable. Every single one of us seems to be struggling ourselves and/or knows at least one person who is. Many experts believe that we are actually in the throes of a mental health crisis.
That is why I am especially grateful for Dr. Chrisā€™ presence in our community today as a modern-day lighthouse guiding us with her medical wisdom, personal storytelling, and true compassion.
May we all find healthy ways to lay our burdens down. May we all have the courage to ask for help when we need it. May we all find freedom from suffering.

Todayā€™s interview is important ā€” important to us as entrepreneurs, as women, and as people who interact with colleagues, friends, and loved ones. My guest today, Dr. Christina Bjorndal, is an intelligent, articulate advocate for your right to gain control with respect to your mental health ā€” and sheā€™s also just a heck of a lot of fun. We had a fun ā€” but intense ā€” interview, where we talked about her personal journey with anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder, and how her quest to find greater health brought her to naturopathic medicine.
This conversation is full of actionable items ā€” things we can do if weā€™re questioning our own states of mental health, or as a colleague or friend advocating on behalf of those who need our assistance.
